Summary: Maggie Day is turning 40 and is experiencing confused feelings of marital discontent. Her husband Art, a leading cardiologist, barely notices her existence. Her teenage daughter, Amanda, is spending all of her free time with her best friend Reg, who is a budding cartoonist who has decided he wants to be gay because "all the talented cartoonists are". Determined to change her life, she returned to school to become a vet and works parttime at a local animal clinic. Maggie develops a crush on a boss and decides to see a therapist to learn how to deal with it.
