Full Show Summary: This popular NBC sitcom follows the misadventures of the parks and recreation department for the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana. The show's protagonist, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), is a lofty idealist with a dorky earnestness that ranges from irritating (more often during the first couple seasons before the show found its footing) to endearing. Joining her are her gruff boss Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman); her colleague Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) who entertains with his neverending efforts to be suave; the office's snarky young assisstant April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza); and hunky city planner Mark Brendanawicz (Paul Schneider). Also in the gang is Anne Perkins (Rashida Jones) and Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt). Anne is a civically-minded nurse who originally met Leslie at a city hearing and the two developed a strong friendship. Both Rashida Jones and Amy Poehler have stated in interviews that the Anne-Leslie relationship is what first drew them to the show. Andy started the show as Anne's mooching boyfriend who harbored dreams of being a rock star but he has greatly matured over the series and has landed various jobs working at city hall. At the end of the second season, the show improved greatly by replacing Mark with two characters who originally came to Pawnee as consultants but whose roles then grew significantly. Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe) is an eternally optimistic health nut who eventually was appointed city manager. Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) is an introverted former government progidy with a strong nerdy side and whip smart political instincts who settled into various roles and became a love interest for Leslie. Created by Greg Daniels and Mike Schur as a follow-up to their success with the American version of The Office, the show also follows the mockumentary format.
