Full Show Summary: As other recent succesful TV shows, Secret Diary of a Call Girl originated in a novel, which had its own peculiar story - It all started as a british a blog that told the allegedely real stories of a female escort, signed by the penname “Belle de jour”. There was long speculation about the identity of its author, and in 2009 it was revealed she was a woman named Brooke Maganti who in her student years had been an actual call girl. The blog became a novel and later this TV show, giving an unusually realistic account of the life of a british escort. While it can be a tough profession, the tone is somewhat lighthearted, with the protagonist, Belle, speaking to the camera often, explaining her thoughts and feelings. Humorous moments are not absent, specially when she attends clients with some particular fetish or problem. Good acting is vital in this kind of story, and Billie Piper, who plays the lead role, must be commended for a top job. Not only she has the requisite beauty, but manages to infuse her character with all the necessary emotions and make it very likable. Sex scenes are belieavable without entering into soft porn territory, and the general quality of the show is very high. The episodes are self-contained, and could probably benefit from a more continuous storyline, though this aspect is improved from the third season. Secret Diary of a Call Girl has some similarities with shows like Sex and the City, and can be enjoyed by both a male and female audience. All in all, it’s an interesting take on a controversial theme, highly entertaining and made with good taste. It may even act as a mind-opener for a part of the audience.
