Blue Mountain State
Full Show Summary Although college comedies are not very common in theatres these day, they found a place on TV with Blue Mountain State, a show that pays tribute to classics of the genre like Animal House, Porky’s or American Pie. This time, though, we get an unusual perspective - that of the college’s football team members, typically presented as bad guys in this kind of stories. Alex Moran, the second string quarterback of the college team, is happy to have a secondary role, enjoying the advantages of an athlete without the responsibilities of the star players. Though he’s in a privileged position, he honors his old friendships, like the one he’s got with Sammy, who acts as the team’s mascot. It would be easy to dismiss Blue Mountain State as a brainless show, but it has its heart, too, and some genuinely funny moments. Not trying to fool the audience, it’s a very good take on the genre, offering what every fan of college humor can expect - crazy humor, wacky situations and lots of gorgeous girls (and guys, for that matter). Although college football is more a background for the story than a real theme, if you’re a fan of this sport you’ll have another reason to see the show. Many of jokes revolve around the weird occurrences of the team’s captain, a very peculiar character. With charming enough scripts and good production values, Blue Mountain State is more than it seems at first glance. Though it only lasted for three seasons, it gathered a quite loyal fanbase, that very much appreciated its wild and carefree humor. A great watch for grey days where you just want to have a good, hearty laugh with crazy college antics. |
